THE SHORT ANSWER
The Speedgoat 7 replaced the 6 on February 1, 2026 at $165. It swapped the firm CMEVA for the line's first supercritical EVA, which measures softer and returns noticeably more energy, softened the heel collar, added a gaiter attachment and reshaped the Vibram lugs for wet rock. Quoted stack and drop did not move. The ride complaints stopped; a new one about sizing started, because the 7 runs short.

Stay on your shoe, or switch?
Changed characterThe correction, with a catch. The supercritical foam gives the 7 back the softness and life the 6 gave up, and the scores moved with it: Road Trail Run 9.8, RunRepeat 85, GearJunkie 8.9, Outdoor Gear Lab a top pick for long runs, and Believe in the Run back up to B tier from C. Then Hoka shortened and narrowed the last, so the shoe that fixed the ride complaint created a fit complaint. If the 6 was too firm for you, this is the fix. If the 6 was too tight, it is not.
Stick with the Speedgoat 6 if
- The 6 fit you well; the 7 runs short and narrower up front, and half a size up is the common advice
- You are not willing to pay $10 more for a foam change you may not notice on short runs
Move to the Speedgoat 7 if
- The 6 felt dead or went flat early; the supercritical foam is the reason to switch
- You run wet rock and technical descents, where the reshaped Megagrip lugs earn their keep
- You run in the cold, where the new foam stiffens less
What loyalists said about the update
Reddit aggregation reads 50 percent positive across 345 reviews, and the negative half is almost entirely about length and width rather than ride. One runner with eight to ten pairs of Speedgoats behind them said the 5s were effortless and the 7 needed lubricant and workarounds; another summed it up as definitely half a size shorter and not as wide. Durability reports are mixed but specific: holes where the toe bumper meets the mesh at 250 miles, and delamination inside 50 miles in one review sample.

Beyond the Speedgoat 7, these come closest to what the Speedgoat 6 did.

- 9.2 oz
- 8 mm drop
- 42 mm heel
- $155 list
The road shoe most Speedgoat owners already have in the closet. Same brand, same rockered max-cushion idea, and since 2025 the two quote nearly the same stack. The Clifton runs 8 mm drop against the Speedgoat's 5 and has no Vibram under it, so it is the pavement half of the pair rather than a substitute on dirt.
Against your Hoka Speedgoat 6: 0.6 oz lighter, 2 mm more heel stack, 3 mm more drop.

- 10.4 oz
- 0 mm drop
- 25 mm heel
- $140 list
The other name on every trail shortlist, and close to its opposite. The Lone Peak runs zero drop on 25 mm of firm foam with a toebox that lets your foot spread; the Speedgoat is 40 mm, 5 mm of drop, and holds your foot still. Runners cross-shop them constantly, but switching is an adjustment for your calves rather than a like-for-like swap.
Against your Hoka Speedgoat 6: 0.6 oz heavier, 15 mm less heel stack, 5 mm less drop, $15 less at list.
