The complete Altra Timp lineage

The Timp sits in the middle of Altra's trail range. Zero drop and the same foot-shaped toebox as the Lone Peak, with about 5 mm more foam under it: Altra's own ladder runs the Lone Peak at 25 mm, the Timp at 29 or 30, the Olympus at 33. It is the shoe you buy when the Lone Peak goes thin on a long day and the Olympus is more shoe than you want. It is also the line where Altra keeps making the same mistake and then fixing it. Believe in the Run defined the Altra Curse in a Timp review, the 2020 Timp 2, which cut an ounce with the new Quantic midsole and narrowed the midfoot in the same step. The 3 opened the toebox back up a year later. The 4 (2022) swapped in EGO MAX foam and rebuilt the upper and became the version owners bought spares of. The 5 (2024) added a Vibram Megagrip outsole, cut an ounce, cut the price, and lost toebox volume again. The 6 (December 2025) widened it back out and reviewers called it the fix. The runners who stockpiled 4s have not come back. Numbered Timps are only part of the family: the Timp Hiker and Hiker GTX, the Timp 5 BOA and the and wander collab, and the GTX and Mid GTX waterproof versions share the platform without joining the succession. The Timp 1.5 closed out the pre-Quantic era in late 2018, just before the window this site covers. Altra's other trail shoes, the Lone Peak, Superior, Olympus and Outroad, are separate lines.
