The complete Hoka Speedgoat lineage

The Speedgoat is Hoka's max-cushion trail shoe, named for ultrarunner Karl Meltzer, who took the nickname in 2000 and became Hoka's first sponsored athlete a decade later. It launched in 2015 and has run on the same premise since: as much foam as Hoka can stack under a Vibram Megagrip outsole with 5 mm lugs, wrapped in a deliberately snug upper. The modern run splits cleanly. The 3 and 4 (2019) shared one 32/28 mm chassis and a stiff overlaid upper that some testers fought. The 5 (2022) took an ounce off, replaced the upper with stretchy jacquard mesh and became the version everyone still measures the others against. The 6 (2024) went firmer, caged the upper and narrowed the platform, and is the only Speedgoat that has ever drawn more negative Reddit reviews than positive. The 7 (2026) answered with the line's first supercritical foam and got the ride back, then shrank the last and started a different argument. Gore-Tex versions have shadowed every generation since the 4, and the Speedgoat Mid GTX is a boot rather than a running shoe; neither gets its own record here. The Tecton X, Challenger ATR, Mafate Speed, Torrent and Zinal are separate Hoka trail lines, not Speedgoat versions.
