THE SHORT ANSWER
The Triumph 22 replaced the Triumph 21 in May 2024 at the same $160 list. It swapped the PWRRUN+ midsole for full-length PWRRUN PB superfoam on a wider platform with a thicker upper, and gained a third of an ounce. Many 21 loyalists turned the trade down and bought clearance 21s instead.

Stay on your shoe, or switch?
Changed characterThe line's schism. PWRRUN PB made the 22 softer and springier at easy paces, and Believe in the Run still rated it a capable cruiser. But it came out heavier, wider, and stiffer, and reviewers who loved the 21 said so plainly: Tom's Guide ran 35 miles in it and could not prefer it to the 21. An easy-day specialist where the 21 was an everything shoe.
Stick with the Triumph 21 if
- You loved the 21; the 22 is a different shoe at the same price
- You use your Triumph beyond easy paces
- The extra weight and width read as downgrades to you
Move to the Triumph 22 if
- You want maximum soft-and-bouncy for easy miles only
- You are a heavier runner who bottoms out firmer foams
- The wider, more stable platform helps your ankles late in runs
Where the Saucony Triumph is now
The line has moved three versions past the Saucony Triumph 21, and the current model is now the Triumph 24 (2026). Measured against your shoe:
- The Triumph 24 is 1 oz lighter
- 6 mm more heel stack
- Drop is unchanged at 10 mm
- New midsole foam
- List price up $10
What loyalists said about the update
The grief event. Long-time Triumph runners called the 22 mushy, clunky, and less versatile, and the 'the 22 and 23 just weren't the same' refrain starts here. It did win a camp: heavier runners and strict easy-pace cruisers liked the deeper cushion and wider base. But this is the transition that sent 21 owners to the clearance racks.
