THE SHORT ANSWER
The Vomero 18 replaced the Vomero 17 in February 2025 and rebuilt it as a max-cushion shoe: 46 mm quoted stack, ZoomX doubled over a new ReactX base, 0.4 oz more weight at men's US 9, and less outsole rubber. It is plusher and strictly an easy-day cruiser; the 17's mix of comfort and versatility did not carry over. List price dropped $10 to $150.

Stay on your shoe, or switch?
Changed characterThe 18 is a reboot. Nike rebuilt the Vomero as its maximum-cushion franchise: 46 mm quoted stack, ZoomX doubled over ReactX, 0.4 oz heavier at men's US 9, and a price cut to $150. As a plush easy-day cruiser it earned the best scores in line history, including 90 out of 100 from RunRepeat. But it does one job now. The 17 was a versatile premium daily; the 18 is a big, soft shoe for easy and long miles, and runners who used the 17 for everything lost that in the trade.
Stick with the Vomero 17 if
- You used the 17 for everything from easy days to strides; the 18 cannot go quick
- You forefoot strike; lab measurements back up the complaints that the 18's forefoot is firmer and lower than quoted
- You run warm; the 18's padded upper is noticeably hotter
Move to the Vomero 18 if
- You want maximum soft cushioning for easy and long runs, which is the one thing the 18 does best
- Wide or extra-wide fits matter; the 18 added both
- Your 17s were a recovery-day shoe anyway; the 18 is better at that job and lists $10 lower
What loyalists said about the update
Mostly won over, with a clear dissenting bloc. Aggregated Reddit reviews run about 75 percent positive across 122 mentions, praising easy-mile comfort, stability for the height, and the price cut. The complaints are consistent: heavy, a warm thick upper, no response for anything quick (one runner said speed sessions had them reaching for their Novablast), and a firmer, lower forefoot than the spec sheet suggests, which pushed some forefoot strikers away.
