The complete Asics Novablast lineage
The Novablast is the shoe that made Asics fun. Launched in 2020 as the debut for FlyteFoam Blast, it broke from the brand's gel-and-structure past: soft, bouncy, reasonably priced, and just unstable enough that Asics has spent every version since managing the trade-off. It became the franchise (the most-recorded shoe on Strava in 2025), and the line's pattern is a tick-tock between fun and control. The 3 (2022) is the beloved light, bouncy one. The 4 firmed up and stabilized, the 5 swung soft again, and each swing split the fanbase. The 6 (July 2026) splits the difference with a bouncy forefoot insert and, at last, an outsole that grips wet roads. The constant across generations is the durability gripe: dead foam by 200 to 400 miles is the standard complaint. Offshoots outside the numbered succession: the TR trail variants, a Gore-Tex 6, SPS lifestyle retros, and the budget Dynablast, which recycles old Novablast midsoles. The premium Superblast and Megablast are separate lines, not Novablast generations.
