THE SHORT ANSWER

The Rincon 4 replaced the 3 in August 2024 after a three-year gap, at $125. Hoka rebuilt the shoe on a wider, more stable platform with revised EVA, a rubberized-EVA podular outsole, and a snug double-jacquard upper. It gained 0.6 oz and became a better protected daily trainer, but lost some of the low, nimble versatility that defined the first three Rincons.

Changed character

The 4 revives the Rincon as a better protected daily trainer, not as a precise continuation of the 3. It is wider, heavier, more stable, and less eager at workout pace. The ride remains recognizably rockered and affordable, but classic Rincon owners should try it rather than assuming the three-year wait produced the same shoe.

Stick with the Rincon 3 if

  • You want the 7.4 oz classic Rincon for workouts as well as daily miles
  • The Rincon 3 fits you and you can tolerate its short outsole and foam life
  • You have a high-volume foot; the 4 upper runs snug even before the ride changes

Move to the Rincon 4 if

  • You want a wider, steadier platform for everyday running
  • You want more underfoot protection after the long gap
  • You are willing to trade 0.6 oz for a more substantial build and a wide-size option

Where the Hoka Rincon is now

Two updates on, the Rincon 5 (2026) is what sits on shelves today. Against the shoe you own rather than the one that directly replaced it:

  • The Rincon 5 is 2.3 oz heavier
  • 9 mm more heel stack
  • Drop moved from 5 mm to 8 mm
  • New midsole foam
  • List price up $10

What loyalists said about the update

Mixed but not hostile. Reviewers liked the cushion-to-weight ratio, smooth rocker, stability, breathability, and unchanged value. The snug low-volume fit and ordinary energy return disappointed some, and lab abrasion testing found that the thick rubberized-EVA outsole still wore exceptionally fast.

Beyond the Rincon 4, these come closest to what the Rincon 3 did.

Hoka Mach 7, men's shoe, side profile
  • 7.9 oz
  • 5 mm drop
  • 37 mm heel
  • $145 list

The Mach 7 is what old Rincon buyers expected this line to remain: 1.8 oz lighter, lower-drop, and livelier on supercritical foam. It costs $20 more; the Rincon 5 is the cheaper, steadier easy-day shoe.

Against your Hoka Rincon 3: 0.5 oz heavier, 8 mm more heel stack, the same drop, $30 more at list.

Questions runners ask

Is the Hoka Rincon 3 still available?
For now. Amazon still lists the Hoka Rincon 3, but the size run is thinning and prices swing with remaining stock. If your size is there, this is the late window, not the early one.
Is the Rincon 4 a downgrade from the Hoka Rincon 3?
Not a downgrade, but a different shoe. The Rincon 4 scores well with new buyers while changing the ride that Hoka Rincon 3 loyalists bought it for. Read the spec changes before assuming it will feel familiar.
How much heavier is the Rincon 4?
0.6 oz heavier in a men's US 9: 8 oz against the Hoka Rincon 3's 7.4 oz.
Is the Hoka Rincon still made?
Yes. The current version is the Hoka Rincon 5, released in 2026, 2 versions on from the Hoka Rincon 3.
What is the closest current alternative to the Hoka Rincon 3?
The Hoka Mach 7. The Mach 7 is what old Rincon buyers expected this line to remain: 1.8 oz lighter, lower-drop, and livelier on supercritical foam. It costs $20 more; the Rincon 5 is the cheaper, steadier easy-day shoe.
