Supercritical EVA with a sticky rubber forefoot and Durabrasion heel
The Mach is Hoka's lightweight trainer, the shoe in the range that can actually pick up the pace. The Mach 4 (2021) was the redesign that put the line on the map, and its loyalists are repeat buyers who go through pairs a year. The line's sore spot was never the ride: through the Mach 5, the outsole was bare rubberized foam, and wearing through it early was the standard complaint. The Mach 6 (2024) fixed that with a real rubber outsole and swapped in a supercritical foam, and it became the best-reviewed shoe the line has had. The Mach 7 (2026) is the current version, a conservative cleanup of the 6. A whole family of offshoots sits outside the numbered succession: the plated Mach X supertrainers (X, X 2, X 3) and the limited-run Mach Supersonic that previewed the 5's foam.
