THE SHORT ANSWER
The Mach 5 replaced the Mach 4 in June 2022. It kept the geometry and swapped in the softer ProFly+ foam from the limited Mach Supersonic, cleaned up the upper, and went up $10 to a $140 list price. The outsole stayed rubberized foam, and wearing through it early became the 5's defining complaint.

At a glance
- Weight is unchanged
- Drop is unchanged at 5 mm
- New midsole foam
- List price up $10
Every spec side by side, with the reason behind each change: Mach 4 vs 5.
Stay on your shoe, or switch?
Refined, same shoeThe 5 is the 4 with softer foam and a $10 higher price, and on the run that trade worked. The problem was under it: the outsole stayed bare rubberized foam, and at $140 the runners burning through it in 200 miles had a fair complaint. Good shoe, short life.
Stick with the Mach 4 if
- You found the 4 a touch firm underfoot and want the same shoe softened
- Leftover 4s at clearance prices beat paying $10 more for the same outsole
Old stock is gone; see alternatives below.
Move to the Mach 5 if
- You want the softer, bouncier foam Hoka debuted on the Supersonic
- The 4 fit you well; the 5 keeps its geometry and weight
Where the Hoka Mach is now
The line has moved three versions past the Hoka Mach 4, and the current model is now the Mach 7 (2026). Measured against your shoe:
- The Mach 7 is 0.3 oz lighter
- 8 mm more heel stack
- Drop is unchanged at 5 mm
- New midsole foam
- List price up $15
What loyalists said about the update
The ride was liked and the outsole was not. Reviewers scored it well while calling out outsole durability and wet grip, and community threads repeat the same arc: bought it, loved it, wore through the heel early. Some long-term Mach 5 fans still preferred its softer, more flexible feel to the stiffer 6.

Beyond the Mach 5, these come closest to what the Mach 4 did.

- 7 oz
- 4 mm drop

The Kinvara is the Mach's longest-running rival: both are light, unplated trainers that double as tempo shoes. The Kinvara sits lower to the ground and runs firmer; the Mach carries more foam.
Against your Hoka Mach 4: 1.2 oz lighter, 1 mm less drop.

- 7.8 oz
- 8 mm drop
- 39 mm heel
- $175 list
The Endorphin Speed is the plated version of this job. It costs more and gives back more at pace; the Mach is the simpler, cheaper shoe that handles the same mix of daily and uptempo work.
Against your Hoka Mach 4: 0.4 oz lighter, 10 mm more heel stack, 3 mm more drop, $45 more at list.

- 9.2 oz
- 8 mm drop
- 42 mm heel

Same brand, same rocker, different mission. The Clifton is the softer, heavier easy-day shoe; the Mach is what Hoka runners buy when the Clifton feels too slow.
Against your Hoka Mach 4: 1 oz heavier, 13 mm more heel stack, 3 mm more drop, $25 more at list.
Questions runners ask
- Is the Hoka Mach 4 still available?
- No. Amazon's stock of the Hoka Mach 4 is gone in both men's and women's sizes, and old-model stock does not come back. Your move is the successor or a close alternative.
- Is the Mach 5 a downgrade from the Hoka Mach 4?
- No. Most runners rate the Mach 5 as the same shoe done slightly better. The changes are real but none of them alter what the shoe is.
- Is the Hoka Mach still made?
- Yes. The current version is the Hoka Mach 7, released in 2026, 3 versions on from the Hoka Mach 4.
- What is the closest current alternative to the Hoka Mach 4?
- The Saucony Kinvara 16. The Kinvara is the Mach's longest-running rival: both are light, unplated trainers that double as tempo shoes. The Kinvara sits lower to the ground and runs firmer; the Mach carries more foam.
