THE SHORT ANSWER
The Rincon 2 replaced the original in August 2020 at the same $115 price. Hoka kept the 29/24 mm EVA platform, 5 mm drop, 7.7 oz weight, and sparse outsole intact, then fitted a slightly snugger engineered sandwich-mesh upper and slimmer tongue. It was deliberately the same shoe above a new upper.

At a glance

- Drop is unchanged at 5 mm
Every spec side by side, with the reason behind each change: Rincon 1 vs 2.
Stay on your shoe, or switch?
Faithful successorThe 2 is almost a production rerun of the original. That is good news if the first Rincon fit your foot and bad news if its exposed foam or short-lived bounce bothered you. Choose between them on fit and price; the ride is effectively identical.
Stick with the Rincon 1 if
- The original upper fits you and the Rincon 2 is not cheaper
- You expect a durability fix; the outsole and foam are unchanged
Old stock is gone; see alternatives below.
Move to the Rincon 2 if
- You want the slightly snugger sandwich-mesh hold
- You want the same ride in a newer pair with a full size run
Where the Hoka Rincon is now
Four generations separate the Hoka Rincon 1 from the Rincon 5 (2026), so the gap is wider than any single update suggests:
- The Rincon 5 is 2 oz heavier
- 9 mm more heel stack
- Drop moved from 5 mm to 8 mm
- New midsole foam
- List price up $10
What loyalists said about the update
Warm at launch because Hoka resisted changing a breakout shoe. Reviewers praised the light, smooth versatility, then repeated the original's two warnings: exposed foam looked chewed quickly and some midsoles lost their lively feel around 100 to 150 miles.

Beyond the Rincon 2, these come closest to what the Rincon 1 did.

- 7.9 oz
- 5 mm drop
- 37 mm heel
- $145 list
The Mach 7 is what old Rincon buyers expected this line to remain: 1.8 oz lighter, lower-drop, and livelier on supercritical foam. It costs $20 more; the Rincon 5 is the cheaper, steadier easy-day shoe.
Against your Hoka Rincon 1: 0.2 oz heavier, 8 mm more heel stack, the same drop, $30 more at list.

- 9.2 oz
- 8 mm drop
- 42 mm heel
- $155 list
The Clifton 11 is now 0.5 oz lighter despite carrying 4 mm more heel stack, and shares the Rincon 5's 8 mm drop. It is plusher and $30 more; the Rincon remains Hoka's value option.
Against your Hoka Rincon 1: 1.5 oz heavier, 13 mm more heel stack, 3 mm more drop, $40 more at list.

- 7 oz
- 4 mm drop
- 29 mm heel
- $130 list
The Kinvara 16 preserves the old Rincon brief better than the current Rincon does: 2.7 oz lighter, flexible, and low at 4 mm. It costs $5 more and gives up substantial cushion and stability.
Against your Hoka Rincon 1: 0.7 oz lighter, 1 mm less drop, $15 more at list.
