THE SHORT ANSWER
The Arahi 6 replaced the 5 in early 2022. The J-Frame sole geometry stayed intact, while a lighter zonal-mesh upper, plusher tongue, and extended heel pull cut 0.4 oz. The US shelf price settled at $140, $10 above the 5.

Stay on your shoe, or switch?
Refined, same shoeThe 6 is the polished version of the original Arahi formula: light for a stability shoe, breathable, firmly guided from heel through forefoot, and otherwise almost unchanged. That conservatism aged well. When the line later moved away from the J-Frame, the 6 became the version loyalists searched for.
Stick with the Arahi 5 if
- The Arahi 5 fits perfectly and its extra heel structure matters to you
- You do not value a small weight reduction enough to pay more
Old stock is gone; see alternatives below.
Move to the Arahi 6 if
- You want the lightest mature version of the J-Frame Arahi
- You want a more breathable upper and softer tongue
Where the Hoka Arahi is now
Four generations separate the Hoka Arahi 5 from the Arahi 9 (2026), so the gap is wider than any single update suggests:
- The Arahi 9 is 0.3 oz heavier
- 11 mm more heel stack
- Drop moved from 5 mm to 8 mm
- New midsole foam
- List price up $25
What loyalists said about the update
Warm and durable. Reviewers saw the upper change as modest but useful, and repeat buyers valued the predictable 5 mm J-Frame ride. The recurring objections were a firm forefoot, a narrow midfoot, and support that could feel too assertive for mild pronators.

Questions runners ask
- Is the Hoka Arahi 5 still available?
- Partially. Women's sizes still turn up on Amazon, but men's stock is gone. If your size shows up, decide quickly; discontinued stock only shrinks.
- Is the Arahi 6 a downgrade from the Hoka Arahi 5?
- No. Most runners rate the Arahi 6 as the same shoe done slightly better. The changes are real but none of them alter what the shoe is.
- How much lighter is the Arahi 6?
- 0.4 oz lighter in a men's US 9: 9.3 oz against the Hoka Arahi 5's 9.7 oz.

- What is the closest current alternative to the Hoka Arahi 5?
- The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 25. The Adrenaline is the more traditional option: a 10 mm drop, slightly more weight, and GuideRails that make the support easier to feel. The Arahi 9 is softer and centers the foot within an H-Frame, but costs $10 more.
