THE SHORT ANSWER
The Ride 18 replaced the Ride 17 in January 2025 at the same $140 list. It kept the platform and foam but reworked the PWRRUN+ mix lighter, added forefoot flex grooves and more outsole rubber, and deleted the 17's disliked finger-loop heel tab.

At a glance
- The Ride 18 is 0.2 oz lighter
- 2 mm more heel stack
- Drop is unchanged at 8 mm
- New midsole foam
Every spec side by side, with the reason behind each change: Ride 17 vs 18.
Stay on your shoe, or switch?
Refined, same shoeA cleanup of the 17 that kept the plush direction and fixed its annoyances: less weight on the scale, more outsole rubber, flex grooves for a smoother roll, and no more finger loop. Believe in the Run's Kaleb called it his current favorite daily trainer, while a teammate could not tell it from the 17 at all. Both takes are accurate.
Stick with the Ride 17 if
- Your 17 has miles left; underfoot they are nearly identical
- Closeout 17s are cheaper for the same platform
Move to the Ride 18 if
- The 17's weight or finger loop annoyed you
- You wear through forefoot rubber; the 18 adds coverage
- You want the better lacing and padded collar
Where the Saucony Ride is now
Two updates on, the Ride 19 (2026) is what sits on shelves today. Against the shoe you own rather than the one that directly replaced it:
- The Ride 19 is 1 oz lighter
- 3 mm more heel stack
- Drop is unchanged at 8 mm
- New midsole foam
- List price up $5
What loyalists said about the update
Landed as the consensus safe pick, with TechRadar going as far as the best running shoe for most people. The anti-17 contingent appreciated the weight coming back down. The remaining gripes: heel slip from the soft collar, and weak wet-pavement grip.

Questions runners ask
