THE SHORT ANSWER
The Ride 17 replaced the Ride 16 in January 2024 at the same $140 list. It swapped the PWRRUN midsole for full-length beaded PWRRUN+ on a wider platform, gained a full ounce, and turned the Ride noticeably softer and bouncier.

At a glance
- The Ride 17 is 1.1 oz heavier
- Drop is unchanged at 8 mm
- New midsole foam
Every spec side by side, with the reason behind each change: Ride 16 vs 17.
Stay on your shoe, or switch?
Changed characterThe plush pivot. Full-length beaded PWRRUN+ made the 17 softer and bouncier than any Ride before it, and Solereview called it a daily trainer done right, one of the best under $150. The cost was a full ounce and the old ground feel. Whether this counts as an upgrade depends entirely on which Ride you signed up for.
Stick with the Ride 16 if
- You liked the Ride precisely because it was not plush
- An extra ounce on a daily trainer bothers you
- You want ground feel; the 17 mutes it
Move to the Ride 17 if
- You want a softer, bouncier ride without paying Triumph money
- Your legs want more cushion on long miles
- The 16's upper durability burned you
Where the Saucony Ride is now
The line has moved three versions past the Saucony Ride 16, and the current model is now the Ride 19 (2026). Measured against your shoe:
- Weight is unchanged
- 3 mm more heel stack
- Drop is unchanged at 8 mm
- New midsole foam
- List price up $5
What loyalists said about the update
Divisive in a way the line had never been. Comfort-first runners welcomed a $140 shoe that rides near the Triumph; long-time fans of the firmer, lighter Ride did not, and the 16-and-17 era still draws complaints in Reddit recommendation threads. The finger-loop heel tab was disliked almost universally.
