FIT AND WEIGHT
Weight9.7 oz11 oz
Do not read this gap literally. The 6's figure is an independently measured men's 9 and the 7's is a claimed men's 9, and Altra publishes at men's 10.5, so the two are not the same kind of number. Testers who weighed both put the real gain at roughly half an ounce a shoe.
WidthsD, 2ED, 2E
UpperEngineered mesh with bonded TPU overlays and laser-cut drain holesStitchless engineered mesh with heat-welded overlays
The drain holes are gone, the extra lace holes are gone and the toe bumper shrank. It holds up better than the 6's upper (a PCT hiker who blew out two pairs of 6s finished the trail on 7s with no problem) and it is also where the fit complaints start, because the midfoot came in slimmer.

OTHER CHANGES
FitOriginal FootShape, widest measured toebox in the lineOriginal FootShape, slimmer midfoot and forefoot
Altra kept the Original FootShape name and narrowed the shoe anyway. The gap between the label and the fit is what the complaints are actually about: as one runner put it, what Altra now calls Original FootShape is the widest fit in the current lineup, but it is not literally their original shape.
OutsoleMaxTrac with TrailClaw, carried overReformulated MaxTrac with new lug geometry
The biggest outsole change the line had seen: a new compound, a sharper claw shape and more lugs under the midfoot. Lab-measured lug depth is 3.4 mm.
