THE SHORT ANSWER

The Kinvara 16 replaced the Kinvara 15 in July 2025. It kept the platform and the 4 mm drop, redesigned the upper, and improved the outsole's grip, while gaining about half an ounce and $10, to $130.

Faithful successor

The 16 keeps the restored low formula and spends its update on the upper and outsole. The trade is a half ounce and ten dollars, which stings in a line whose whole identity is light and cheap. If the 15 fit you, this is more of the same with better traction.

Stick with the Kinvara 15 if

  • The 15 is the same platform for less money while stock lasts
  • Every gram matters to you; the 15 runs 0.3 oz lighter

Move to the Kinvara 16 if

  • You want the nicer upper and the noticeably better grip
  • Your size in the 15 is drying up

What loyalists said about the update

Positive with grumbling at the edges. Fans are mostly glad the line is alive and still low to the ground, and one reviewer called it the best lightweight trainer under $130. The complaints: weight creep runs against the series philosophy, the decade-old PWRRUN foam is overdue for replacement, and the toebox wears fast.

Beyond the Kinvara 16, these come closest to what the Kinvara 15 did.

Saucony Ride 19, men's shoe, side profile
  • 8.9 oz
  • 8 mm drop
  • 38 mm heel
  • $145 list

Nothing else in Saucony's lineup rides like a Kinvara, so the Ride is the practical next stop: the same brand's neutral daily with more foam and more protection for similar money. Expect more shoe and less ground feel.

Against your Saucony Kinvara 15: 2.2 oz heavier, 9 mm more heel stack, 4 mm more drop, $25 more at list.

Nike Pegasus 42, men's shoe, side profile
  • 10.1 oz
  • 10 mm drop
  • 37 mm heel
  • $145 list

The Pegasus is the traditional-trainer cross-shop: firmer and heavier than a Kinvara but still snappy, with a jump in drop from 4 mm to 10 mm that changes how the shoe meets the ground.

Against your Saucony Kinvara 15: 3.4 oz heavier, 8 mm more heel stack, 6 mm more drop, $25 more at list.
