The Cloudmonster is On's high-stack trainer, and the shoe that changed how running reviewers wrote about the brand. Testers who had spent a decade calling On's shoes better looking than they were to run in came back from the 2022 original saying they finally loved an On running shoe. The Cloudmonster 2 (2024) gave a lot of that back: 0.7 oz heavier, firmer foam, and the Speedboard buried under a layer of foam instead of sitting under the foot, which is the change testers blame for the lost bounce. The Cloudmonster 3 (March 2026) rebuilt the upper, added the line's first 2E, and left the ride alone. Despite the name and the bulk, this has never been a soft shoe; the word every reviewer reaches for is firm. Two things sold under this name are not versions of it. The Hyper models (Cloudmonster Hyper, Cloudmonster 3 Hyper, and the LightSpray version with a robot-sprayed upper) run on Helion HF foam with no plate at all. And the Cloudmonster 1 on sale today at $180 is a lifestyle re-issue, described by On as the Cloudmonster reimagined for everyday style, not the 2022 running shoe this page tracks.
