The complete New Balance 880 lineage

The 880 is New Balance's traditional neutral workhorse, the step-down sibling of the plusher 1080 and the default shoe-store recommendation for walkers, older runners, and anyone fitting an orthotic into a B-to-4E width run. Through the v13 it was the definition of no surprises: 10 mm drop, moderate stack, heavy rubber outsole, one release a year. The v10 (2020) rebuilt it on Fresh Foam X, the v12 and v13 let the weight creep in, and the v14 (2024) cut an ounce and a half, moved to an 8 mm drop, and became the modern favorite. Then the v15 (February 2025, current) rebuilt the shoe again as a max-stack, 6 mm rockered cruiser, the line's real schism: reviewers graded it fine as a shoe and warned in the same breath that it walks away from the grounded geometry the 880's base bought it for. This page tracks every version since 2020. Gore-Tex variants of the v13 and v14 sit outside the numbered succession.
