The complete Altra Torin lineage

The Torin is Altra's road flagship and the shoe it sells most of. Altra's own product page for the Torin 6 was titled Our Best-Selling Road Shoe, and the 8 and 9 still carry best-seller tags on altrarunning.com. It is zero drop like everything the brand makes, but at 28 to 30 mm of foam it looks and rides like an ordinary daily trainer rather than a minimalist one, which is why Believe in the Run called the 7 the shoe to try for the Altra-curious. The line has no single betrayal in it, which makes it unusual here. Instead it has four different problems in five versions. The 5 (2021) drew a wave of one-star reviews about a tongue that cut into people's ankles. The 6 (2022) put on nearly an ounce for a new heel collar and started the fit complaints. The 7 (2023) took the weight back off and then fell apart, with owners reporting holes and torn heels inside months. The 8 (February 2025), after a year with no Torin at all, rebuilt the upper and the outsole and became the best-liked version of the five. The 9 (July 2026) is the real redesign: P35X foam replacing the EGO MAX that had run since the 5, a Vibram outsole, 2 mm of stack taken back out, and a firmer ride. Numbered Torins are only part of the family. The Torin 4.5 closed out the pre-EGO MAX era just before the window this site covers, and its half-number cannot be represented here any more than the Lone Peak 4.5 can. The Torin 5 Luxe (the old Plush, renamed and then dropped), the Torin 5 Leather, the waterproof Torin 8 GTX and the Torin ST, a stability shoe launched alongside the 9, share the name without joining the succession. The Escalante and the Via Olympus are separate road lines.
