Soft-tuned PEBA-and-EVA blend FuelCell foam
The FuelCell Rebel is New Balance's light, unplated trainer for the space between daily miles and workouts. The 2019 original was a firm, forefoot-biased experiment with a conspicuous lateral flare; the Rebel v2 rebuilt it into a soft, flexible breakout hit and one of 2021's most-loved trainers. The v3 then added foam, width, rubber, and stability, making a better conventional daily trainer while sanding away the v2's wild, nimble identity. Version 4 won runners back with a wider platform and PEBA-blend FuelCell at the same low weight, and the v5 (July 2025, current) adds 5 mm of cushion while preserving that versatile formula. This page tracks all five versions. The plated SuperComp Rebel and the Rebel Trail are separate branches, not numbered successors.

Most runners skip a version or two rather than buying every update. These compare a version against the one two updates on, with the net change rather than a single step.
