Dual-layer nitrogen-infused Enerzy NXT, softer over firmer
The Wave Rider is Mizuno's flagship neutral daily and its best-selling shoe worldwide, running since 1997 on one idea: a corrugated Wave plate that cushions mechanically, under a firm, snappy, 12 mm-drop ride that barely changed for 28 versions while the industry went soft. The modern era arrived in stages. Enerzy foam entered at the 24 (2020) and went full-length in the 25, the 27 (2023) polished the classic formula to its peak, and the 28 (2024) became, unknowingly, the last 12 mm Rider. Then the 29 (2025) cut the drop to 10 mm on all-new nitrogen-infused Enerzy NXT, the biggest update in series history, and the 30 (July 2026, current, the 30th-anniversary edition) finished the job: 8 mm, a taller rockered stack, and the first full-length Wave plate the line has ever had. The twist is that the loyalist backlash mostly never came; the base followed the shoe. This page tracks every version since 2020. The Wave Rider Neo, the GTX and SSW variants, and the lifestyle Wave Rider Beta and OG retros sit outside the numbered succession.
